Nohemi Gonzalez Vigil

It was a very emotional day for Cal State Long Beach as students mourn the passing of their fellow 49er.

Over two-thousand people attended the vigil Sunday in honor of twenty-three year old Nohemi Gonzalez.

Nohemi was a C-S-U-L-B design student who died during the Paris attacks Friday.

Family, friends and strangers all came out to the candlelight vigil.

C-S-U chancellor Timothy White came out to pay his respects to friends and family of Nohemi.

He read a poem written for her by poet Juan Felipe Herrera.

Nohemi’s boyfriend of four years Tim Mraz was in tears as he spoke to the crowd.

“She’ll always be with us. She’s a little firecracker you know. She’ll always be here. She’ll always be in my heart.”

Nohemi was studying in Paris for a semester for industrial design.

The university’s design department chair Martin Herman shared his thoughts of Nohemi as a student in the college of design.

“And so when I think of her I think about someone who still had that sense of wonder and openness, but was very disciplined. She had all of the traits, all the hallmarks of a great designer, creative thinker. So it’s just heartbreaking to have them take her from us.”
